Blue Tier to the Bay of Fires

An Epic 42km Trail

The Blue Tier to Bay of Fires ride is one of the most epic and diverse mountain bike adventures in Tasmania, and arguably, in Australia.

It’s a 42 km wilderness trail that starts at 740m elevation in the lush, mossy forests of the Blue Tier, and takes you on some of the best single trail you could ever imagine, finishing on the stunning white sands of Swimcart Beach in the Bay of Fires next to the popular tourist town of St Helens.

Here’s why it’s so iconic:

  • 🌲 Dramatic terrain changes – It begins in alpine rainforest, flows through massive granite boulders and open eucalypt forest, then drops you into coastal scrub.

  • ⛰️ Adventurous descent – Over 1,000m of descent, with flowing singletrack, technical rock sections, and some big, fast descents.  Don't be fooled, there are also some challenging climbing sections mixed in.

  • 🌊 Incredible finish – Ending your ride at the beach is unforgettable. Some riders even bring swimmers and jump straight into the ocean.

🧳 Tips & Essentials

  • Bring ample water, food, and sunscreen — it’s remote.
  • Phone reception is patchy.
  • Weather can vary wildly between the top and bottom.
  • A change of clothes or towel for the beach is a great idea.

  • 🚐 Logistics needed – It’s a point-to-point ride, so most people book a shuttle from Derby.  Shuttles run for group bookings every day and for individuals and couples every Wednesday and Saturday.
  • Book ahead as this shuttle does fill quickly and seats are limited
